Lord, be my helper.

When you’re facing a difficult task, do you ever think, “If only I could cry out and know that someone could just fix this for me!”

It is that simple. God is ever present and always listening to His children. He’s eager to help, but we need to be willing to let go and trust Him. They say, “Let go, and let God.”?

We often get in our way. I know… I can be very impatient at times. We all want things to happen on our terms, don’t we? We want it to happen now!

The Bible is clear. “With the Lord, one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.(2nd Peter 3:8) His timing is not our timing, and we may not know why He doesn’t just reach down and “fix that thing” as quickly as we want Him to, but one thing is sure, in the fullness of time, He will do what is best in each situation. In yours and mine.

Knowing the mercy and compassion of God, it’s no doubt a blessing that we can’t see behind the scenes. Would we want to know what He’s up to, or what’s going to take place before and while “that thing” is being resolved?! Perhaps He is preparing you for the next bigger thing. Maybe he’s developing someone else.

The Word says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Do you love Him? Then trust Him.

His word is “a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.” In our human blindness, despite ourselves, He propels us forward and helps us to see where we don’t even dare to go sometimes.

“…Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.(Joshua 1:9) He lives in us, and He surrounds us.

God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He is faithful and will not only go with you, but He will carry you through the lowest depths, the darkest shadows, and the thickest fog until He brings you up and out into the open where the light is brilliant, and peace abounds.

Close your eyes and take a deep breath, release and trust Him.

James reminds us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5)

He tells ANY of you. That means you and me. He gives. Don’t fret, don’t waiver or doubt. He will respond. He promises.

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) Trust that God will supply all you need. It’s comforting to put this into perspective. The God of the universe (who made the world in 6 days!) can surely get any of us out of whatever messes we made.

“…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6)

I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I thought I didn’t hear God I was so grateful later that things turned out just the way they did! Don’t be anxious. Let your requests be known, then wait on Him. Silence is sometimes the answer.

“Fix that thing?” Yes, He will.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)

Commit your way to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will come through. No matter what happens, our God is good. His ways are always higher than our ways, so we can’t see beyond the darkness. But He can. And you will too once you let Him carry you up into the light that peeks through the murkiness of your pain, despair, challenge or whatever it is you are facing today.

“When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.”  (Psalm 91:15)

He promises we can trust Him. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” (Psalm 3:28)

It doesn’t get any plainer than that. If you need an adviser that will never let you down, call God.

So, are you willing to let go, and let God BE God? Release your grip on that path that you’ve been claiming as a right way so that you can let God move you into a better way that will ultimately be far greater than you can imagine.

Lord, be my helper. Where I struggle and doubt, be my courage. Give me the grace to trust that you will move the mountains that prevent me from being all you called me to be. Be my eyes when the way is dim. I am confident that you are carving a path for me to follow. Be my ears that I may clearly hear your promptings and surrender to your lead. In Jesus name.
